“A person’s worth is
contingent upon who he is, not upon what he does, or how much he
has. The worth of a person, or a thing, or an idea, is in being,
not in doing, not in having.”
-- Alice Mary Hilton
In a women’s circle
recently, we were discussing money (or the lack of it). Almost
all of us admitted to feeling shame that we were not better able
to provide for ourselves. As women are globally undervalued and
underpaid, it’s alarming to realize how pervasive this shame
must be.
It serves us well to
reflect that as human beings, we are innately worthy. However,
if we don’t perceive ourselves to be worthy, we will limit the
good things we will allow into our lives. Feelings of lack
attract experiences of poverty.
Do you consider yourself
worthy? It may help to answer these questions:
- Are you more comfortable giving rather than receiving?
- Do you feel driven to improve yourself?
- Do you value other people's time more highly than your own?
- How would you feel if someone offered to pay you a salary of
$1 million/year? Could you accept it?
Awareness of any shame
around money and of our lack of self-worth is the first step to
change.
“Every decision you make
indicates what you believe you are worth.”

Miracles
