THOUGHTS ON WAKING UP
“The very least you can do
in your life is to figure out what you hope for. And the most
you can do is live inside that hope. Not admire it from a
distance but live right in it, under its roof.”
-- Barbara Kingsolver
Although
we live in a time of great awakening and transformation, often
it appears those around us are anything but waking up. This is
an illusion. Awakening has many different faces. Just before we
awake is often the time we resist it the most. We want to hit
that cosmic snooze button again.
With our
hearts, we can recognize the many faces and modes of awakening.
We can choose to not buy into the illusion that discourages us.
Each of us is organically awakening. Though the moments just
before fully waking up may be the time we fight it the most, it
doesn’t change the fact that we are waking up.
A dried-up
flower bulb appears like no beauty will bloom from it. In the
early stages of pregnancy, a woman does not look like she is
growing life. But, the creation inside her at that very moment
is awe-inspiring and huge on a scale we can barely comprehend.
Even in
the midst of pain, apathy, and despair, there are still seeds of
hope and promise of new life. Our hearts can help us see what is
really going on and not just what appears to be on the surface.

“When I despair, I remember
that all through history, the way of truth and love has always
won. There have been tyrants and murderers and, for a time they
can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of
this. Always.”
-- Mohandas Gandhi
Tommasina’s words were inspired by Julia Ward Howe’s Mothers Day
Proclamation. Mothers of Heart calls forth Peace from a place of
