Living from a solid foundation

"Our senses are indeed our doors and windows on this world, in a very real sense the key to the unlocking of meaning and the wellspring of creativity."

-- Jean Houston

Hi,

How can we consciously boost the success of our work, of our projects, of what we want?

Through our senses! Visionary Jean Houston teaches that getting in touch with our senses will help us tap the creative forces of the universe.

In an interview for the 'Women on the Edge of Evolution' series, she guided listeners through a process she uses to enhance creativity and success. Here's what she recommended:

One by one, activate your senses through mental imagery.

Touch: Imagine touching a soft nose of a horse, then a rose petal. Imagine an ice cube on your neck... plunging your hands into warm honey. Now imagine touching some project you want to accomplish in the short term. Feel it as you did the other objects.

Taste: a salad of bitey field greens with olive oil and lemon juice, a spicy pizza, a crisp apple, hot buttered toast. Now taste your project.

Hear: wild applause, someone playing pattycake with a child, ducks squawking overhead, the ocean lapping against the shore. Now really hear your project.

Smell: a garden of lavender, bread baking, an Italian kitchen, a meadow after a rain. Now smell whatever is around your project.

See: a sunrise, a sunset, a beloved friend's face, a bright starry night. Now see your project unfold.

Once you've moved through each of the senses individually, put on beautiful music and use all senses at once to experience the imagery of your project as a rich inner reality.

Jean says Life's creative process is going on all the time. If we practice tuning in to our senses, our outward senses will become more acute and our inner senses will pick up more messages.

She has studied the world's most heroic people, and she says that they are profoundly present to what is happening both inside and outside of themselves. They inhabit their bodies as well as their minds, and they use and enjoy their senses. They 'cook on more burners'!

Intriguing, yes?

~ Patrice

"Each day I live in a glass room unless I break it with the thrusting of my senses and pass through the splintered walls to the great landscape."
