“As I see it, every day you
do one of two things: build health or produce disease in
yourself.”
-- Adelle Davis
A friend said recently, “I
have had to give top priority to caring for myself.” This comes
from a woman who is the mother of 5 children between the ages of
11 and 5, the two youngest being twins. Not surprisingly, she
was utterly exhausted. What was surprising was that she was wise
enough to put caring for her own health at the top of her
‘to-do’ list.
In my experience, women so
rarely place their own needs first, even when they have been
stretched to the limit and beyond. For so many of us, the
housework and community ‘commitments’ need to be addressed, no
matter what. But consider the cost!
“The majority of the
diseases which the human family have been and still are
suffering under, they have created by ignorance of their own
organic health, and work perseveringly to tear themselves to
pieces, and when broken down and debilitated in body and mind,
send for the doctor and drug themselves to death.”
