PERMISSION TO REST

I have been exhausted lately. My typical responses to this have been:

- I have no right to feel so tired. Others work so much harder than I do.

- I feel guilty because I am not carrying my weight at work and I’m no fun with the family.

So, under the brunt of my own criticism, I slog on. And I feel increasingly resentful towards absolutely everything I think I have to do.

It has finally dawned on me just how much my own attitudes contribute to my deep exhaustion. With such weight on my shoulders, it’s no wonder that my feet drag!

I don’t need to compare myself with others.

I don’t need to justify why I am feeling tired.

I do need to acknowledge my fatigue and take care of myself.

What does an animal do when it gets tired? It rests, of course. It’s so obvious. And so simple!
