“I WONDER”…
“Just use your imagination
and a tremendous thing will happen. Imagine that you have the
ability to see the world with different eyes, whenever you
choose. Each time you open your eyes, you see the world around
you in a different way.”
-- don Miguel Ruiz
Recently,
as I reviewed a daily journal entry, I discovered two distinct
phrases at the beginning of sentences – “I think…” and “I
wonder…” The “I think” sentences suggest the processes of my
left brain, that logical intellectual storehouse of hard and
fast facts, and time-honoured rules.
The “I
wonder” sentences, on the other hand, call out to the intuitive
right side of my brain, where my imagination loves to play.
Those words invite me to look inward, to balance my perspective,
and choose the way I wish to perceive the outer world.
“I wonder”
asks me to imagine the secret worlds hidden in simple things.
Journaling reveals repetitive thinking patterns but imagination
frees me to see past these patterns into the extraordinary.
Journaling shines a light on the world of external facts, and
wills me to see the possibilities inside what is fixed and
framed.
Exploring
reality through journaling frees me to discover inner
landscapes, where I can go beyond the boundaries of the old and
find new frontiers.

(left brain) attends to the notes that compose the melodies. And
here is the key to natural writing: the melodies must come
first.”
