FACING REALITY

"The only time we suffer is when we believe a thought that argues with what is."

-- Byron Katie

Good day to you!

Yesterday and today, I've been in a state of complete physical exhaustion OR my energy is seriously blocked. Either way, things need to get done...

Automatically, subconsciously, I moved into resistance. "This is not okay, there's something seriously wrong, I hate myself..." I'm at war with my reality.

How do I work with this?

Consciously, I recognize that being at war drains energy. I also know that what I resist, persists. I don't like either of those scenarios. I tried a guided meditation to find peace but it didn't work.

So, what if I just sit with these feelings -- the physical sense of exhaustion, and the emotional reactions of anger, disgust and despair...? What if I just feel these things without wrapping a story around them?

Well, the sensations shift, they ease, I feel more space.

I've written about this before, but this continues to be an issue in my life, and maybe it is in yours too. I need to practice, practice, practice... repeat, repeat, repeat... remind myself over and over and over again that I can embrace ANY experience that arises within me.

Sometimes my body needs rest -- duh! And emotions are simply energy in motion. Just allowing them to be there also allows them to move out. I'm finally getting it that my experience -- my pain, frustration, fatigue -- wants to be acknowledged but not held on to.

See it, feel it, then let it go. And life moves on. No big deal. And I feel so much better!

"No one has ever been able to control his thinking, although people may tell the story of how they have. I don't let go of my thoughts -- I meet them with understanding. Then THEY let go of ME."

-- Byron Katie

"Stories are the untested, uninvestigated theories that tell us what all these things mean. We don't even realize that they're just theories. ... How much of your world is made up of unexamined stories? You never know until you inquire."

-- Byron Katie
