AWAITING INSPIRATION

"There are two ways of spreading light: to be
The candle or the mirror that reflects it."

-- Edith Wharton

Hi everyone,

I'm back from a restful two weeks away, a time when I allowed myself space and freedom to enjoy both the people and the beauty of nature surrounding me. I'd hoped that this peaceful respite would spawn insights that I could share with you here. Alas, no great ah-ha's presented themselves.

I'm okay with that, though. I would rather wait patiently for something of value to arise than push myself to write something clever (because with that kind of need, I know it wouldn't be clever at all).

Today I chanced upon a poem in my files that speaks so directly to my aspirations. Perhaps these graceful words will resonate with you as well.

I believe in all that has never yet been spoken
I want to free what waits within me
so that what no one has dared to wish for
may for once spring clear
without my contriving.

If this is arrogant, God, forgive me,
but this is what I need to say.
May what I do flow from me like a river,
no forcing and no holding back,
the way it is with children.

Then in these swelling and ebbing currents,
these deepening tides moving out, returning,
I will sing you as no one has,
streaming through ever widening channels
into the open sea.

-- Rainer Maria Rilke, Book of Hours
