Two Poems - garden sanctuary and Dreamweaver
~ Kathie Sutherland
garden sanctuary
dream a temple
out of doors
a shrine, within a grotto
surrounded by a view
of many mansions
shifting in the summer sky;
dream a song
of pips and peeps,
arias by finches
notes like pebbles
rolling on a breath of wind;
dream the musky earth,
rain-smell stalking in
splattering on granite stones,
invite an earthworm
squiggle on a rainy path;
dream fragrant spices
in squat clay pots
basil, mint, garlic
parsley, sage and thyme
add a clematis vine
crawling up the trellis;
dream curvy flower beds,
morning tousled bud heads
and pansy smiles
on a fresh new day,
add a creaky cedar swing,
stone angels, silent prayer,
place for the restless heart
to settle in a while;
dream a spot for tanned bare feet
shuffled smooth with dust
curled up in a wicker chair
set in a sunny sanctuary;
dream creative hands that dig
for seeds in journal soil,
growing nurture words
to decorate
inner harvest gardens,
with gratitude and wonder.

Dreamweaver
when the Dreamweaver comes
to the silent surface
of a night-fertile mind,
transcendent dispatches
pass through the curtain
dropping their pebbles of wisdom.
when the Dreamweaver comes
with her basket of symbols
wrapped for gentle unfolding,
dream flower petals
fall in a pattern
an offering
on the altar of image.
when the Dreamweaver comes
to the wild woman’s cave,
she spins the wheel of the mind,
threads the body loom
with yellow-gold memory,
twists a dreamtime rug
from black pain and red passion.
When the Dreamweaver comes
she nudges open the door
and her presence
enlightens the heart place
of the dreamer.
